We attended the Apartment Association luncheon yesterday and got to receive a Ft. Carson briefing from Col. Joel D. Hamilton the Fort Carson Garrison Commander. The first thing that jumped out at us is that there are currently 3,500 soldiers deploying – which is further confirmed by the number of orders/notices we’ve received in the past 30 days. Furthermore, it’s important to note that BAH has been reduced by 1% for all new soldiers coming into the base; although this is a fairly minor reduction it is the first reduction in BAH in 10 years.
The Colonel also touched on the Keep Carson Strong message given to the powers-that-be last week downtown as the Army continues to analyze which bases will see cuts due to their adjusted/reduced budget. Not only is Ft. Carson crucial to the strength of local economies (Fountain, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and etcetera) but it is a key base that provides many different services and training opportunities for all branches of our military.
As we educate ourselves on these things and others, and put time and effort into others such as lobbying efforts to fight for the rights of home owners, we feel a sense of pride. Pride in knowing that we work so very hard for our owners in so many ways that they may not even realize. This is the definition of integrity though isn’t it? To do the right thing, even when nobody is looking.
